Samba is a Japanese style steak house restaurant with meals being prepared at a large grill that guests sit around. The presentation by the chef of the meal is the show and unlike other restaurants with similar preparations, Samba’s entrees are quite good. The steak is well prepared with good cuts and the seafood dishes are also very fresh and delectable. Sushi is above average and the wine list is quite extensive. The bar has a variety of different custom-made cocktails, a great list of beers on tap and a good variety of wines by the glass.

On Saturday nights, Samba caters to the Framingham State college crowd and offers karaoke and the place gets packed with 20 somethings looking for a good night out. You’d never expect a place like Samba in the middle of suburbia to be a hoppin’ place but believe me, if you want to avoid crowds, then don’t go on a Saturday night anytime after 9. If you’re looking for an interesting group of people to hang out with and actually some fairly good singers, then Samba is your place.

I had the steak hibachi which was cooked perfectly and served with a shrimp appetizer, sprouts, and fried rice cooked on the grill. Excellent. Many of the restaurants that prepare food at the grill in front of you, will no longer do the fried rice on the grill but Samba does and they do a nice job of it. There’s nothing more fresh if you like fried rice.

Service is good even though the place was packed to capacity and the chef’s show was entertaining. Kids may enjoy watching the little show that the chef’s put on and some are better than others at getting the guests involved.

I can give a thumbs up to Samba a try and enjoy the show.
