I have to admit I was a little disappointed that Desmond O’Malley’s shut down. It was the one good quality pub in the Natick/Framingham area. However, if anything was going to replace it, a good steakhouse would’ve been at the top of my list along with one that had a wine list to druel over. Last count, there were over 40 wines offered by the glass. An exceptional opportunity for anyone to give a wine a try that they have not yet before going out and buying it. The owners did an exceptional job on the redesign for the restaurant. Dark woods, lots of leather, and of course the huge fireplace. The steaks are some of the best in the area with my personal favorite being the Steak Diane served with a dijon cognac cream and Boursin mashed potatoes.

You order sides separately if you order just a steak not on the “specialties” list but there are ample choices from a blue cheese crust to shrimp scampi to top off your beef. Sides are ordered separately if you order your steak this way and the helpings are large enough to be enjoyed by more than just one.

The bar area is adequate enough to meet up with some friends over a good glass of wine. Friends of ours held a small get together in the bar area for a birthday and there was plenty of room for at least 20 of us with room to spare in the back. Along with an astounding choice of wines, you also have a great choice of mixed drinks as well and the bartenders are well prepared to offer something just to your liking.

I highly recommend Metro 9 if you’re in the mood for a good steak and a comfortable atmosphere paired up with a great wine. Metro 9 has the look, feel, and menu of a good Boston steak restaurant but just around the corner for those living west of Boston.

MetroWest magazine conducted a review of Metro 9 as well which can be found on Metro 9’s website. (keep in mind that they don’t offer the lobster mac & cheese anymore unfortunately)
